Registration of olive oil with the name "Kritsa" as a protected geographical indication product

10/01/2020

PRESS RELEASE

A great success for the olive cultivation of the Kritsa region, is the publication in the Official Journal of the European Union of the application of AS KRITSAS, registration of the olive oil with the name "Kritsa" as a Product of Protected Geographical Indication, (Kritsa, PGI).

According to a relevant announcement by the European Commission, which was published on 23/12/2019, "Kritsa olive oil is produced exclusively within the boundaries of the municipal district of Kritsa and the neighboring local communities of Mesa and Exo Lakonia, which belong to the Municipality of Agios Nikolaos. It comes exclusively from olive fruits of the Koroneiki variety."

The registration of "KRITSA" Olive Oil as a Protected Geographical Indication-PGI Olive Oil adds goodwill to the great value that KRITSA Olive Oil has gained in the international markets.

At a time when quality is the only way for our agricultural products, KRITSA olive oil with the PGI certification secures the possibility of conquering an even greater market share, in an increasingly demanding food market.

It is worth noting that the promotion of PDO-PGI products is a dominant priority of the EU's agricultural policy, since it enables European products to highlight and certify their value against competitive products from third countries. Also, it is worth noting that the market for PDO-PGI products exceeds 60 billion euros.

The initiative for the registration of KRITSA Olive Oil as a PGI belongs to AS KRITSA, while the responsibility for drafting, submitting and supporting the dossier to the services of the European Union was the company Proactive-Business Consultants.
